Elias Freij

Born in Bethlehem; businessman, factory owner (mother of pearl and olive wood handicrafts); head of Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce since 1970; elected mayor of Bethlehem since 1972; head of board of trustees of Bethlehem University since 1973; member of Palestinian delegation to the Middle East peace talks in Washington; Minister of Tourism and Antiquities in the PA.

Died in Amman in march 1998.
