Tulkarm (Tulkarem) City
Tulkarem Governate has a total population of (132110) inhabitants, 46.2% of the inhabitants live in urban areas and localities while 41.4% live in rural areas and 12.4% live in refugee camps.
Tulkarem city is considered one of the main cities in Palestine and it history goes back to Roman ages and identify to the 3rd century Ac.
Its name "Tulkarem" means the mount of vineyards, figs and olive trees. It is situated 17 km from the Mediterranean Sea and 125 meter above the sea level and it is connected to other major cities of the region by A4 motor way. It's all surface area is 13900 square kilometers and it includes within its boundaries 36 Palestinian villages, refugee camps.
Tulkarem area is considered one of the unique areas in Palestine whether from the geographical side for from the historical and agricultural side. It's very famous for its fertile and agricultural plains and its abundant agricultural products. Although the city lost a big part of its fertile plain called Trucial plain in 1948, it's still famous for its horticultural products such as figs, grapes olive trees, citrus or chards and all kinds of vegetation. |
